What is a Legal Nurse Consultant?
|
A Legal Nurse
Consultant is a
Registered
Nurse who uses their years of experience and education in the
medical field to provide comprehensive reviews and analysis of
medical records and medical-legal issues.
Legal Nurses can act as a
fact witness or locate expert witnesses for testimony. Nurses
receive advanced training in the area of medical record review and
can provide valuable information to attorneys, insurance companies,
government agencies, healthcare organizations, and other
organizations.
Legal Nurse Consultants review and analyze medical
records, detect tampering in medical records, offer assistance with
or create demonstrative evidence, evaluate medical information, and
provide professional nursing opinions regarding the causation of
injuries and the assessment of damages to individuals.
Legal Nurse
Consultants can interview witnesses under the direction of an
attorney to help expose the truth in cases. Legal Nurse Consultants
provide reports and other presentations to their client to help
determine how to further find the truth in the case at hand. Legal
Nurses can also recognize signs of tampering within the patients’
charts and records to cover up mistakes. |

Why Do You Need a Legal Nurse Consultant?
|
An experienced nurse is most
familiar with patient charting and can recognize errors or omissions
in medical charts as nurses are responsible for the maintenance of
medical records in the medical field. Because of this training and
experience nurses can provide an in-depth and thorough analysis of a
medically related case.
A Nurse Consultant can act as an advocate to
provide medical assistance to review diagnoses and treatment
options, accompany a patient to appointments, monitor the patient at
the bedside in a hospital, or be a good choice for a healthcare
proxy.
A Nurse Consultant can assist in developing, implementing and
coordinating a medical care plan with health care providers as well
as family, and monitor and evaluate treatment efficacy and cost.
Health Insurance and other cost and billing issues can be very
confusing. Nurse Consultants are available to help wade through the
confusion of handling paperwork, insurance filings, denials of
claims and insurance plan decision making. |
